Buttermilk Hamburger Buns (Yum)

As always I am looking for ways to make food that doesn't have all these ingredients that I don't understand. I started to experiment with different breads that I am familiar with from Dorothy's Cafe.  Well, with all this free time I have I came up with this awesome recipe for buttermilk hamburger buns.

Now you have to understand, I hate to bake and really don't have patience for it.  But.......why not right? So I have discovered that after all I think I can bake, but I am not going to take it up as a career.  Anyways, enjoy these buns.  There great with anything you want to put between them (Um I am not trying to be sexual).

Ingredients
1 Cup Buttermilk, room temperature
3 TSP Active Dry Yeast
1 Large Organic Egg
1/4 Cup Butter, room temperature
3 TSP Honey
1 TSP Salt
3 Cups Flour

Mixing Ingredients
  1. Place buttermilk in electric mixer with your 3 tsp of yeast.  Mix well
  2. Add honey, egg and butter.  Mix until egg is well blended.
  3. Slowly add 1 cup of whole wheat flour.  Mix well until the flour is incorporated well with the wet ingredients.  Add salt,
  4. Add 1 another cup of flour, but this time it must be the all purpose flour.  Incorporate it well and then add the last 1 cup of flour.  Mix well.  If still to wet add just 1/4 cup all purpose flour.

Kneading

  1. Place your dough on a floured surface and knead all the air bubbles out.  All you need to do really is slap your dough around and punch it with your fist.  This is a great way to relive some anger.

Letting the Dough Rest
  1. Basically place the dough back in the bowl, rub some oil on it and place a towel over the top and place it in a warm non drafty area.
  2. Let it rest for an hour.
  3. Go drink a couple glasses of wine while the dough rests.
  4. When dough is done resting it should have doubled in size.

  1. Place dough on a floured surface and begin to beat it again for a few minutes until all the air bubbles are out.

  1. Preheat oven to 400
  2. Divide dough into 6 parts.
  3. Roll in your hand until it forms a ball shape (as if you were making meatballs).
  4. Place on cookie sheet
  5. Brush the top with milk
  6. Place these beautiful buns in the oven and bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown

These buns are pretty darn good and just put whatever you want on them.  I made shredded chicken with buffalo sauce and topped it with blue cheese, caramelized onions and spinach.

Enjoy and eat these with a nice glass of beer.
